Actually it does make sense.
Rinto was originally created so that the song writers and producers could have a second male character if they only have Len and Rin. Not to mention Rinto isn't a cute little 14 year old boy; as a fanmade character he has far more potential and doesn't follow the canon looks and voice that Len does.
You may also be forgetting that Len and Rin aren't always seen as mirror images/ genderbends. They're sometimes seen as siblings, which would make it possible for them to have their own genderbends.
